New Retail Unit
This unique site was inherited with planning approval for four apartments above a retail unit in a small village in Huddersfield. The client wanted to increase the retail unit and omit the apartments, thus reducing the program and build cost.
The location has a distinctive character, and it was key to reflect this in the new design. Materials were dictated by the immediate surroundings and the site restrictions informed the floor area, height and mass of the building. The topography of the site means it is supported on stilts at the rear.
The client has already agreed on a long-term lease agreement with a national retailer and once planning is secured the project will progress to the working drawing package before going out to tender.
This will be a design & build project and the practice will work with a Project Manager to deliver the end results.
